Lynjoleen Berkshire Stud - 2004 Colin & Joy Lienert, Shea-Oak Log, South Australia established the Lynjoleen Berkshire Stud in 1955. The farm is situated 32 miles north of Adelaide on the main Sturt Highway and is adjacent to the famous Barossa Valley. Other enterprises besides the Stud are 1200 layers for egg production and 600 acres vhich are sown intensively with wheat, barley, peas and canola. All food for the ;tock is grown, hammer milled and mixed on the farm. Only Berkshires are run at the Stud. All Breeding Boars and Sows are fully registered with the Australian Pig Breeder's Association at Kiama, NSW. The stud comprising Df 25 Breeding Sows and 5 Boars, concentrates on breeding the true Berkshire type that conforms to the Standard of Excellence as laid down by the APBA. The foundation stock bought by Lynjoleen came from the neighbouring Valfred Stud owned by Mr. Fred Hornhardt of Freeling. The sows were mated to Glen Ayr Minstrel Boy owned by Mr. John Snell. These bloodlines produced outstanding progeny. Boar blood lines used in the early years were Lone Pine (NSW), Beau View (QLD), Jarond (WA), Illawarra (SA) and Grandmere (QLD) and Gloriana (WA). Fremont Century was imported from New Zealand. Sow blood lines include Valfred, Illawarra, Beau View, Kangaroo Creek, Gwenbank, Inverary and Narinn. Boar lines now in use are Tycoon 874 and 319, Vanguard 638, Orlando 694, Raider, Archer and Turbo. Some of the main sow families are Delilah, Rainbow Magic, Jasmine, Jemima, Bianca, Bettina, Chantelle and Innaminka. Lynjoleen Berkshires are line-bred with an occasional new line to invigorate the stock. Berkshires are a docile breed of pig with excellent milking qualities; they require les feed than other breeds to maintain good health because of their excellent adaptability to forage in very tough and hardy conditions. Their black colour withstands sunlight and they are noted for no sunburn, mange or scale. Berkshires will withstand cold and heat better than any other breed. Lynjoleen constantly strives to maintain the purity and conformation of the breed -wide between the eyes, strong flat bone, good length, broad back and well filled hams with 6 white marking in the right places. To compare stock with other Studs, Lynjoleen has shown at 74 Royal Shows - 48 years at Adelaide Royal Show, 13 times at Melbourne and 13 times at Sydney. Lynjoleen was Most Successful Exhibitor 68 times.
