Special Conditions to Agricultural Show Societies
(Please note that these rules are to be
used for all BPA shows in 2004
Where different Conditions are given for
different breeds, it is only necessary to print those relating to breeds
for which a classification is provided.

Pigs to have been registered in a
published volume or accepted for entry in a forthcoming volume
of the British Pig Association's Herd Book. (It is not
sufficient for an animal to be "eligible for registration").
Animals registered in a Grading
Register of a Herd Book are not eligible for entry in
Agricultural Show Classes.
The ear number, registered name,
Herd Book number and date of birth of each pig, also the name
and Herd Book number of sire and dam, must be supplied for
printing in the catalogue together with the name of the breeder
in cases where the exhibitor is not also the breeder.

At all Shows in 2004, female pigs
(all breeds) born before I January 2003 shall be eligible to
compete only if in the six calendar months prior to the Show or
on or after I January 2004 they have farrowed, suckled and
reared to three weeks of age, a litter of pigs.

Female pigs born on or after 1
January 2003 and before 1 July 2003 (BERKSHIRE, GLOUCESTERSHIRE
OLD SPOTS, HAMPSHIRE, LANDRACE, LARGE WHITE and MIDDLE WHITE
breeds ONLY), shall have either produced and reared a litter of
pigs within six months prior to the show or produced a LIVE
litter within twelve weeks of the first day of the Show.
Female pigs of the BRITISH
SADDLEBACK, DUROC and LARGE BLACK breeds born on or after 1
January 2003 and before 1 March 2003 shall have farrowed and
suckled a litter of pigs prior to the Show. Females born on or
after 1 March and before 1 July 2003 shall farrow within twelve
weeks of the first day of the Show.
Female pigs of the TAMWORTH breed
only born on or after 1 January 2003 and before
1 July 2003 shall either have farrowed, suckled and reared a
litter prior to the Show or produce a live litter within six
weeks of the first day of the Royal Show.
Female pigs of the WELSH breed
born on or after 1 January 2003 and before 1 March 2003 shall
have farrowed and suckled a litter of pigs prior to the Show.
Females born on or after 1 March and before 1 July 2003 shall
farrow before, or within eight weeks after the first day of the
Show.

Boars of two years of age and
over (all breeds) are to be certified as having sired at least
three live litters within the twelve months preceding the date
on which entries for the Show close.
The pigs comprising such litters
are to have been litter notified in the British Pig
Association's Herd Book or proof of their birth must have been
given to the Association.

Boars aged twelve months or more
at the time of exhibition, must have their tusks cut prior to
the Show.

All boars must be shown by two
competent adult handlers who are equipped with protective
boards.

The use of artificial colouring,
whitening and/or powder on pigs as well as the removal or
addition of spots by artificial means is prohibited (white
woodflour is permitted).
