Chairman's Report
Uploaded July 2007

Well the Show season is already under way again and the Berkshire breed certainly was to the forefront at Devon County Show last week. Sue Fildes and her two and half year old Peverell Suzanne sow was named Reserve Interbreed Champion, runner up to Andy & Maureen Case's Oxford & Sandy Black Sow who clinched the Interbreed Championship for the 2nd year in a row.

The sow was bred by Fiona Shaw in Dorset (who incidentally also bred my first and much loved lurcher dog) and bought by Sue at the age of 6 months. Sue also took the Berkshire Male Championship with Dittisham Ambassador 7. lan and Maggie Todd won the junior boar and Reserve Male with a Smallicombe Peter Lad and Reserve Female with Smallicombe Excelsa 36 July gilt.

I look forward to hearing how other Berkshire breeders did at some of the other early shows such as Newark, Lambourn and North Somerset, and to seeing a good turnout at the Bath & West next week where Jo Wykes- Sneyd is judging. After that I am off to the States for World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa with 7 other breeders from the BPA and between us we will be doing our best to promote all our Traditional British Pig Breeds to people from all over the world. It is probably just that bit harder with the Berkshires, as of course the American's have their own Berkshire breed, but Philip Morrison and I will do our best. And we will be helped by knowing that of course our British Berkshires are the best!
