Bits and Pieces As Viki says we are now well into the showing season, so for all 'showers' don't forget to keep a note of your results and send in your Gilhouse points at the end of the season. An outline of the competition is included within this newsletter. Don't be put off by the list of eligible shows, if a show is not listed then please contact Sharon Barnfield or myself and we will confirm if it is eligible. For those members who are also BPA members, please note that a pedigree Pork sausage competition is to take place post the summer showing season. There will be several heats arount the autumn and winter shows with the Grand Final on the second day of the Smithfield Show. At the qualifying rounds the Champion of each class will receive £25 and the Reserve £15. At the Final the Champion of each class will receive £50
and the Reserve £25. The Supreme Champion will receive £100 and a trophy
and the Reserve Supreme Champion will receive £50. Just a reminder to everyone to send their Berkshire survey back to Jo. It really will help us establish what the population of the various lines is across the membership. Whilst the BPA will try to perform a survey later this year, not all clubs members are BPA members and so we would like to try to find out the real Berkshire herd numbers in the UK. A plea from the BPA. It would really help if you could remember to notify them when a sow or boar has died. Paperwork is a pain but it is really important to make sure we don't over estimate actually breeding pigs. Berkshire pork is very popular at the moment. Our regional article is a success story of a farm shop and if any one has similar experiences please let us know. The more we can get the word spread the better for everyone. The show season is almost upon us. Please see the BPA shows page for full details - click here.
