Minutes from the 2007 AGM

Held at Jobes Barn by kind permission of Chris Coe and Kevin Major on Sunday March 25th.


The Meeting opened at 10.30am. Apologies were received from:-
Miranda Squires, Maureen Shaw, John Johnston, Carole Webb and Chris Penrice.

Presidents report - David Webb

A great honour to be president, attended the RBST meeting on 14/3/07 main theme being the reinstatement of the national Show and sale. Sites proposed were Melton Mowbray -Not suitable, Bingley Hall or Stone Leigh which are all central locations, but still to be organised and arranged. A national action plan re farm animals genetic resources was described, in particular upgrading breeds with other blood.
 

Chairpersons Report - Viki Mills

Viki expressed her appreciation to all those who helped get the boar exhibition off the ground and felt it was a great success.

P.G.Wodehouse project did not materialise last year.

Pork Expo very disappointed at the direction they have gone maternal characteristics not good, numbers reared down and litters numbers down Different team to go out this year one person from each breed. Funding available, applications need to be in by the of the month.

RBSS has been on the agenda for 18 months and target date is 2008.

Bloodline survey all dead pigs to come of computer urgent project before the genetic analysis gets underway.

Veterans Class - Newbury Show please support as this is our Champion of Champions final as well.

Subs - it was decided to allow only one newsletter after the renewal date, there are 102 members to date.
 

Treasurers Report

A new laser printer has been purchased to enable Chris to colour print and collate at a much reduced cost. Chris to look into D.D for members.

Check to see if the notching system is on the site. Password needs to be changed each year to stop unpaid members accessing advertising.

4th - 11th June, Philip Morrison is interested in going.

Leaflet
Viki asked for it to be noted that Sue Fildes has produced an excellent piece to cover the back of the original leaflet. Viki to find out about the copyright for the work done for the new leaflet, It was decided not to go to print at this time. There is still a good supply of the original leaflets left at this time. It was suggested that the notching system be added to the leaflet as an insert.


Any Other Business
Viki said that the BPA are going to look at all the breed standards to make sure they are all up to date. David said that the word only should be added to the Breed standard as had been discussed at a previous meeting. Waitrose's are using Canadian Berkshire boars to cross onto Duroc Sows and are marketing the pork as Berkshire pork. Chris said she would see what she could find out about protecting the name. Sharon said she would follow up with Richard Lutwyche to find out how far the GOS Club has got.

Roval Show
2008 should see an inprovement in the conditions in the pig building.
 

BPA

BPA still need more DNA tests, David Webb and Nell O Connor offered to do some more. Nell said she was concerned to see some outdoor pigs not having any shelter or wallows would take it up with NPA to see what the welfare codes are for outdoor pigs. Sharon said she was surprised that the BPA do not appear to have a leaflet any more. Viki said she would talk to Marcus. BPA SALE will take place again this year at Ross on Wye, Chris will go as breed rep to make sure any Berkshires are of breed standard.
 

Champion of Champions Judge

Julian Collings has been asked and has accepted for 2007. Jonathon Cloke has accepted for 2008.
